Divorces in South Carolina
- Different Than Other States

Unlike divorce law in other states South Carolina divorce law doesn't allow spouses to receive an instant no-fault divorce. One or both spouses in the marriage must establish a legally acceptable reason for a divorce to happen. Grounds for a divorce in Taylors, SC include:

  • Desertion
  • Physical Cruelty
  • Habitual Drunkenness
  • Separation for One Year or More
  • Adultery
 Divorce Lawyer Taylors, SC

If you or your spouse do not have the necessary grounds for divorce in Taylors our family law firm can file a Separate Maintenance and Support action. This step lets the court order child custody alimony and marital bills until you can file for your divorce. During this period CHSA Law LLC gathers pertinent info on your spouse's character and assets that can strengthen your case should it be necessary.

Common Issues Associated
with Divorces in Taylors

A divorce in Taylors means more than the end of a marriage. It involves dividing the parties debts and assets determines child support and custody parameters and can establish alimony. At CHSA Law LLC many of our clients are able to reach agreements with their spouse to resolve these issues. Reaching an agreement lets both parties customize the terms of their divorce to conserve resources avoid trial and meet the family's needs.

Sometimes however two spouses cannot or will not come to terms with an agreement. In these situations a trial is possible and litigation is necessary. 1.

Child Custody and Visitation

One of the most heart-wrenching difficult decisions for parents going through a divorce is resolving child custody and visitation issues. Child custody refers to how much time each parent will spend with their child and whether they can make decisions for them. According to South Carolina law child custody and visitation time are based on what is best for the child.

2.

Child Support

Like other U.S states a formula is used in South Carolina to determine how much child support a person must pay. This formula recommends the amount of child support based on factors like how much income the parents make the cost of childcare and the obligation to support children from other relationships.

3.

Alimony

In South Carolina there is no formula to determine how much alimony a person must pay. However courts consider several factors when deciding if alimony is needed how much alimony should be paid and how long a spouse must pay it. Those factors include each spouse's ability and need to pay alimony how long the marriage lasted and any marital misconduct that occurred. To make matters more confusing there are different alimony types including lump sum rehabilitative and reimbursement.

4.

Distribution of Property

In South Carolina marital property is the property that each spouse amasses from the date of the wedding to the time a spouse files for divorce. That property can often include marital debt. In a South Carolina divorce the courts will order an equitable division of property meaning fair under all circumstances but not necessarily equal.

Understanding Child Custody in Taylors, SC.

As mentioned above decisions that involve child custody and visitation can be contentious for parents both emotionally and legally. As experienced empathetic divorce lawyers we understand how difficult this process can be. When we work with clients going through child custody battles we always make it a point to be with them through the ups and downs to help them stay centered. Whether you are the husband or wife in your divorce we share a common goal: finding an effective way to support your children and assure their wellbeing.

In South Carolina child custody is a loaded term. In the most general definition child custody determines when each parent is responsible for the physical care of the child and how much authority each parent has to make decisions in their child's life.

No two child custody cases are the same but a negotiated custody arrangement is usually preferred in the judge's eyes as each parent has input in the process. If the parents cannot come to an amicable resolution their fate is left in the hands of a Family Court Judge in South Carolina. The focus of child custody law is always on what is in the best interests of the child. What the judge determines to be the best interests changes depending on the judge.

There are different variations of custody in South Carolina (or custody arrangements) each with varying degrees of authority. When you consult with our family law attorneys at CHSA Law LLC we will go over the child custody process in detail and touch on each distinction to eliminate any confusion you have.

  • Help develop cooperative solutions to disputes or mediate when needed
  • Create an equitable parenting plan
  • Discuss the implications of the different forms of joint and sole custody
  • Problems related to child support
  • Modify court orders if you or your child's circumstances change
  • Enforcement of visitation and custody agreements
  • Much more

At CHSA Law LLC we have years of experience with child support issues relating to:

  • Cases where child support is needed for stay-at-home parents
  • Modifications and enforcement of child support mandates

  • the mediated route often means less stress and is more cost-effective than trial.

If you are going through a divorce it's important that you are aware of the following assets and the common issues their division presents:

 Divorce Lawyer Taylors, SC
Pensions

Pensions:

Generally pensions are the second-largest asset in a marriage. When there are sufficient alternative income sources to compensate the non-pension holder South Carolina divorce courts may leave the pension rights with the spouse who earned it with future distribution available. Otherwise a divorce court may enter a Qualified Domestic Relations Order requiring the pension administrator to pay both the former spouse and worker.

Family Home

Family Home:

The family home or the primary residential property owned by the divorcing couple is usually considered a marriage's biggest asset. Dividing this kind of property can be complex and frustrating especially when there are kids involved.

Are you looking for a park in Taylors, SC and thinking about visiting Lincoln Park? With spring weather here (finally) and summer on the horizon, it’s time to start planning activities to occupy little minds and bodies. And it doesn’t hurt for mom’s mind to be occupied too! Lincoln Park in Taylors offers a fun playground, paved path, basketbll courts, and more.

Things to Do at Lincoln Park

Just a short drive up the road in Taylors, you’ll find Lincoln Park. This park probably won’t win any awards for the playground equipment, but the perfectly maintained grounds are beautiful. Wide open (very) green spaces provide the perfect place to turn your toddlers loose to run. Older children can practice soccer on the grassy expanse or take advantage of the well-manicured baseball field. There’s also a court for those who prefer to shoot hoops.

For more parks with courts, see our playground and parks with courts list!

The whole family can enjoy horseshoes or walk/ride/run on the paved trail. A covered shelter with eight tables provides the only “formal” picnic area (and the only shade). Bring your blanket along with a full basket and enjoy an informal lunch on the grounds. This is our pick- have I mentioned how much I loved the grass? Shade is limited, so don’t forget the sunscreen. Lincoln Park has both restrooms and onsite parking.

Lincoln Park Playground

The playground consists of five regular slides and one that’s covered. There’s one smaller slide and four swings. Your little ones will not want to wear sandals or flip-flops. The equipment sits in the sand (not my favorite feature). While this may be easy on the body, it can be hard on the feet. A few benches are there for members of your group who prefer to people-watch or read a book.

If your furry family members are in tow, they must be kept on a leash at all times.

Pinky’s Revenge In Greenville Is Everything You’ve Dreamed Of

Rewind (who remembers “Be Kind Rewind”) … Rewind back a million years to January 2020. Word that a new arcade venue was opening spread and we couldn’t wait until the May 2020 opening date.

Then things happened. Unforeseeable, unavoidable, unbelievable, and unforgettable things. I watched (ok, maybe stalked is the more appropriate word here) the Pinky’s Revenge social media pages as they documented the slow progress over the past year. My patience paid off when they finally opened in 2021!

If you are a child of the 80s, you will certainly be in heaven. But, don’t worry if you can’t understand why someone would ask “Where’s the beef?”, you’ll enjoy this hop back in time too! You just might not understand why people are losing their minds over rectangle-shaped pizza.

Who Is Pinky, And Why Is She Out For Revenge?

The namesake of this venue is a woman dealing with unrequited love, and she’s not happy about it. Pinky is one of the four main ghosts in the Pac-Man series. Being the only female ghost, she attempts to ambush Pac-Man by moving parallel to him. The Pinky character has been shown to have a crush on Pac-Man, which normally goes unreciprocated, so understandably, she’s not thrilled at the situation.

The Games At Pinky’s Revenge

There are dozens of activities to keep you and your family busy at Pinky’s Revenge! You can even attempt to figure out the trick to making more than a weird-looking square with the Etch-a-Sketch toys that are placed on tables around Pinky’s. Games will be $15 for unlimited gameplay, and access to newer games will be by the hour. The arcade has dozens of gaming consoles and multiple pinball tables to choose from as well!

Pinky’s Has School Pizza On The Menu!

NOTE: Pinky’s Revenge is currently unable to get old-school pizza due to distribution issues, but stay tuned to their site or social media pages to see if they get it back!

This may be something that you had to be around in the 80s to appreciate now. We old folks were served this weird rectangle-shaped pizza on Fridays in school. Kids now are given slices of circle pizza at school, and the shape totally makes the pizza taste different! Just take my word for it.

Other delicious things on the menu at Pinky’s Revenge include boiled peanuts, White Castle Sliders, nachos, pretzels with nacho cheese, and hot dogs with optional toppings. PLUS you can order off the Weekend Express Menu from The Farehouse!

The History of Southern Bleachery & Print Works

From 1924 to 1965, the Southern Bleachery Mill purchased unfinished textiles from surrounding mills and then bleached, dyed, and created finished products.

In 2012 Southern Bleachery & Print Works was added to the National Register of Historic Places. When the mill closed in 1965, it sat vacant for the most part until 2015. Then, coffee and artist’s studios breathed life into the quiet that had existed for so long down this dead-end street in Taylors, SC. Since 2015, the use of the mill has expanded to include places to dine, play, workout, party, and more!

Kidding Around’s Maria is a huge fan of coffee and was terribly excited to discover that a new coffee shop had moved in.

“Junto Coffee is located in an amazing space. Its huge windows let in an abundance of light reflecting the lightly painted walls and ceiling, creating a very warm feeling. Some of the windows look to be original and really add to the charm of the space. And let’s talk about the plants. I love green, growing things. Each window is decorated with a hanging plant and there are large, mature potted plants throughout the comfortable seating. There are a multitude of living room-type sets of furniture as well as benches and more traditional chairs and tables spread throughout the large space. There is also a grassy outdoor space with tables that would be a perfect spot for moms with a couple of little kids to meet up.”Read our review for Junto Coffee in its entirety on Kidding Around Greenville.

It’s no secret that a few of us here at Kidding Around are self-described pizza snobs. We have particular criteria, and we definitely each have our favorites. The Farehouse is now on my list of go-to pizza places, and I’m mad I didn’t make it there sooner. The pizza, coupled with the gargantuan-sized chicken wigs, topped potato wedges, and the extensive cocktail list, makes for a meal that will make stops at this hidden gem a regular occurrence for your family.

TAYLORS, S.C. (WSPA) – Bobby and Julie Gregory of Taylors, South Carolina, had no idea when they decided to add a puppy to their family that their beloved Pebbles would hold the record for the oldest dog alive almost two decades later, according to a press release from Guinness World Records.

The four-pound Toy Fox Terrier, who was born on March 28, 2000, is now 22 years old, proving to the world that anything is “paw-sible,” according to the press release.

The Gregorys knew Pebbles was older after hearing about TobyKeith, the world’s oldest living dog.

“Bobby was sitting on the couch and friends and family started texting and calling about a story they saw about a 21-year-old dog getting the record,” said Julie.

“When I saw TobyKeith’s story all over the news, I applied.”

On the other hand, Pebbles’ schedule resembles that of a party animal. She spends her days sleeping in till 5 o’clock in the afternoon and listening to country music, according to the press release.

“She loves listening to country music while she is sleeping. Her two favorite country singers are Conway Twitty and Dwight Yoakam,” Julie continued.

Pebbles has something to eat and drink as soon as she wakes up from her canine slumber before staying up all night, according to the press release.

Pebbles was once a happily married dog, but she became a widow in 2017 after her 16-year-old “husband,” Rocky, a Toy Fox Terrier, died.

The two had 24 puppies together, according to the press release.

“Pebbles doesn’t have a favorite toy, but she loves to snuggle under blankets,” said Julie.

Pebbles enjoys warm weather and likes to sit on the stairs of her family’s pool and soak up the sun during the summer.

Remarkably, Pebbles still has quite an appetite and looks forward to enjoying her meals, according to the press release.

In 2012, her veterinarian placed her on a cat food diet, which is said to be much higher in meat-based protein than dog food, according to the press release.

So, what’s the key to helping a dog live a long and healthy life?

Julie recommends showering your pooch with love, attention, and plenty of food, according to the press release.

“Treat them like family because they are. Give them a happy positive environment as much as possible, good clean food and proper healthcare,” said Julie in the press release.

After a long and storied career spanning forty-two years with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), including seven years leading the agency, SCDNR Director Alvin Taylor has decided to retire. Taylor leaves behind a legacy of lofty accomplishments after helping the agency recover from historically low budgets and agency down-sizing. Although he will be missed in the halls of the Rembert C. Dennis Building, the agency’s headquarters, staff are happy for Taylor as he prepares for a new chapter in his life.

"Alvin became director at a time when the agency needed a leader who could find the best path through a storm," said SCDNR Board Chairman Norman Pulliam. "His integrity and friendly demeanor have set him apart as an agency leader, and he will long be remembered for his steady and honest dealing with political leaders, agency administrators and all SCDNR employees."

Among Taylor's many accolades, he may be most proud of the work the agency has done in the arena of youth outreach. Under his watch, the SCDNR has built a youth shooting sports program, including clay target sports and archery, almost from the ground up. The program now reaches more than 44,000 students in schools and clubs across the state. Just last year the clay target sports championship trail of skeet, trap and sporting clays established a Governor's Cup top prize to recognize the best in high school clay target sports. Besides mentoring in safety and conservation offered to participants, shooters have the opportunity to compete for more than $125,000 in college scholarship money through this program.

Taylor also worked to protect more land for the agency’s Wildlife Management Area and Heritage Preserve programs, totaling more than 1.1 million acres, that can be used by all the citizens of South Carolina, including hunters and anglers. During his tenure, the SCDNR took on the job of protecting the Wateree Heritage preserve, made up of Cooks Mountain and the old Goodwill Plantation in Lower Richland County, as well as the Liberty Hill Wildlife Management Area on Lake Wateree. The agency worked with the National Wild Turkey Federation to build the Palmetto Shooting Complex, a world class sporting clay facility in Edgefield, followed by the Wateree Range, an eight station sporting clays, rifle and pistol range alongside the Wateree River between Columbia and Sumter. Just this year, Tall Pines Wildlife Management Area along the South Saluda River in northern Greenville County was dedicated as the newest property — offering hunters, anglers, hikers and wildlife watchers more opportunities to head outdoors in the Upstate.

Besides working so hard for youth projects and protecting more than one million acres of public land, Taylor worked equally hard to provide leadership and increased funding for the many SCDNR teams, including the biologists and technicians who toil to restore habitats and protect game and non-game species native to the Palmetto State. In this role, Taylor notably led the South Carolina Quail Council as chairman of the steering committee in the agency’s renewed efforts to restore bobwhite quail in South Carolina in sustainable, huntable numbers. That effort already has produced success and offers much hope for the future of grassland birds in South Carolina.

"Without a doubt, Alvin Taylor has been exactly the right leader for the SCDNR during the past seven years, and he has enjoyed the full support of the SCDNR Board of Directors during his entire tenure,” Pulliam said. “There will always be more work to do, but Alvin leaves the agency with the tools and the morale needed to continue doing good work for the natural resources of South Carolina. His legacy may not be fully realized for years. In his humble manner, Alvin heaps accolades on others while he stands in the background. Most of all, whether you know him personally or not, he has been a friend to the citizens of this state."
