MAULDIN, S.C. (WSPA) — Over 200 customers in Mauldin were without water following a scheduled shut-off, according to Greenville Water.

Customers on West Butler Road between Ashmore Bridge Rd and Fowler Rd were among those impacted by the outage. The outage began Thursday night at 9 p.m., when Greenville Water scheduled a one- to four-hour maintenance operation that happened to take longer than expected due to “unforeseen complications.”

Along with a few homeowners, the water shut-off also impacted businesses like the Jimmy Johns. General Manager, Dan Klink says he got to work around 6 a.m. and without water, it put him and his crew behind schedule. “We were usually rolling in at about 6 a.m. in order to get our bread going and get our, fresh vegetables cut. All of that requires water,” says Klink.

Butler Express was also impacted by the lack of water. “It was just like, no water at all. Just water was just barely spitting out.” says Kaleb Longhurst, an employee at the car wash. He said he was in the middle of washing a car when he realized the pressure washer, did not have pressure. Comparing it to a weak garden hose.

Greenville was told 7News residents do NOT need to boil water nor were there additional residents or businesses affected.

However, Klink says they have their own protocols in place. “Protocol is let it run a little bit in case there’s any kind of sediments that build up. We do make sure everything is as it should be. We test it with our pH testers, make sure that the water itself is clean and safe to use and move forward”, he explained.

Representatives shared that all valves have since been turned back on and are actively being flushed.

MAULDIN — Boiling Springs football had a hope, a dream, and 1 minute and 39 seconds to put six points on the board.

At first, the end zone seemed like a repellent to the Bulldogs, as they struggled to score a touchdown in the first three quarters, settling for field goals.

That was until junior quarterback Imri Logan realized it was win or go home.

On third-and-goal, Logan darted left to score a 5-yard rushing touchdown and give Boiling Springs the 16-14 victory over Mauldin with 5 seconds left at Freeman Field in the first round of the Class AAAAA-D1 SCHSL playoffs.

“At first, that play was supposed to be a throw,” Logan said. “But when I saw the open field, I just decided to take off and score. Glad it worked out.”

Before the Bulldogs (5-6) marched down the field to score, Mauldin receiver Tamari Shepard miraculously caught a 48-yard touchdown pass to give the Mavericks (5-6) the 14-9 lead with less than two minutes to go in the game.

“After they score that touchdown, there were some nerves,” Logan said. “But at the end of the day, I know my team. We can go down and score if we really want to, all we have to do is put our heads to it.”

There wasn’t a single soul on the field who looked more elated than Boiling Springs coach Matt Reel. After the clock hit zero, he leaped in the air so high, you’d think he was trying to touch the moon.

“It was a big play from him,” Reel said. “We’d been working on that one for the last five to six weeks, and wanted to confuse the defense a little bit. Imri ran it perfect, and got us into the end zone.”

This marks the second straight year where Boiling Springs comes away with a playoff victory after an eight-season drought prior to last season's 32-0 shutout win over Dorman.

Tensions flared and the match ended in a postgame scuffle with pushing and shoving from both sides. But Logan was unfazed, still riding the high from accomplishing his goal.

“The last time we came down here, they beat us,” he said. “But this time, we came back, and beat them. That’s all I got to say about them, that’s all that matters.”

Next up, the Bulldogs have their biggest task yet, as they’ll travel to take on South Carolina powerhouse Dutch Fork, which has won the past nine state championships.

But for Logan and the Bulldogs, it doesn’t matter the opponent — the focus stays the same.

“Just have to stay locked in,” he said. “Go out there, give it our all, and play football.”

Samsung Electronics America, in partnership with Harte Hanks, recently opened a new customer service call center in Mauldin.

The 14,000-square-foot facility at 701 Brookfield Parkway, near Woodruff Road and Interstate 385, serves as a brand new hub for Samsung Care, the customer service arm of Samsung Electronics America. The call center features workspace for 150 Samsung employees, along with a training lab for workforce development.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Oct. 22 to celebrate the grand opening of the new Samsung Care Customer Service Contact Center. Samsung leadership and staff, local elected officials and community partners attended the event.

“Anytime a customer calls us, they’re calling us in a time of need, and we know that it’s important to not only solve their problems but provide the best customer experience as possible when we solve their problems,” said Mark Williams, senior vice president of Samsung Care for Samsung Electronics America.

Samsung Electronics America has had operations in Mauldin since opening its first product support center within the city in 2009. The company currently has corporate offices adjacent to the new call center at 651 Brookfield Parkway. Mauldin Mayor Terry Merritt said Samsung is a company with a long history of innovation and excellence.

“We’re proud that they’ve chosen to bring and expand on that tradition right back here in Mauldin with 150 quality jobs,” Merritt said.

David Fisher, president of Harte Hanks, said the new Samsung Care Customer Service Contact Center is a symbol of Harte Hanks’ and Samsung’s combined commitment to investing in people, organizations, technologies and communities like Greenville and Mauldin.

“We truly collaborated to make today a success,” Fisher said. “We couldn’t be more excited about what this means for our combined future, and I have no doubt our partnership is just beginning.”

MAULDIN, S.C. (WSPA) – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Samsung call center in Mauldin had to go remote years ago, but today, the city is welcoming the company back to the area.

It’s on Brookfield Parkway, where the city is welcoming in a new Samsung call center.

Mauldin city officials said when COVID hit, workers had to leave the office and work from home.

“They’re here now, 150 jobs in their call center, and they will integrate in our community, and they’ll be part of, part of the city in Mauldin’s community,” said Mayor Terry Merritt, City of Mauldin.

This accomplishment was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting of the new office.

The company said working in person brings back a sense of teamwork for employees. The mayor agrees face-to-face interaction with coworkers makes for easier collaboration and improves the quality of customer service.

“If their initial team doesn’t solve the problem. Right across the hallway is the advance team that can come over and do that. You’re not going to be given another number to call. Samsung is totally immersed to solve your issue right then,” said Merritt.

“This is about taking Samsung care to a new level,” said Marcia Ellis- Green, executive director of customer support for Samsung Care.

Green has worked in customer service for years, she said the main goal when serving others is to do it in a timely manner.

She hopes this call center brings faster help to customers.

“I love helping people get through their problems. Whether it is my washing machines are not working, my refrigerator isn’t working. People don’t understand that there is a real sense of urgency. There are people who have medications and things they need in the refrigerator. We understand that,” said Green.

Merritt said the call center hasn’t reached the 150 employee threshold yet, but he said the location of the call center is suitable for the city’s growth, welcoming whoever wants to work here.

“Most of their people are from this area. So to be able to live in Mauldin and drive a mile to a call center like this, this leading edge technology, it just gives them a great sense of place,” said Merritt.
