JAMES BARKLEY

James is an Associate Attorney in the Corporate Division. James was born and raised in Charleston, SC. He graduated from The University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law, where he served as an Assistant Article Editor for the Journal of Law and Education and was a CALI Award Recipient for the Veterans Legal Clinic.

James attended Wofford College where he earned a B.A. in Government with a minor in Business. While attending Wofford, James was involved in various campus organizations, including writing for The Old Gold & Black, the Wofford School newspaper. James even earned Second Place Sports Story in the 2018 South Carolina Press Association Collegiate Contest Under 5,000 Division for his article, “Zero Waste Game.”

Before joining Cobb Hammett, James held a variety of roles including clerking for Judge Mikell Scarborough, the Master-in-Equity in Charleston County and writing for The Charleston Mercury and Carolina Compass. James also served as an Assistant Property Manager, where he regularly resolved tenant disputes, reviewed leases, and submitted financial and lease summaries for multiple properties.

During his free time, James enjoys being outdoors, listening to live music, playing golf, and cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
